Mighty No. 9 Gets Funded in 48 Hours

It might actually be less than that depending on just when the KS page went up, but wow – in about two days, Mighty N0. 9 has gone from a concept with no guarantees to something that will definitely be funded and created. While it isn’t presently set to be released on the Xbox One and PS4, if it does well enough and gets 2.5 million, it will come to the Xbox 360 and PS3. Some are upset about this and given the improvements to the next-gen controllers, that’s understandable but I’m rather glad it’ll be hitting the older systems. It will be really nice to be able to play Mega Man 9 and 10 as well as this on one system. In the case of the 360, it’s also got some indie games on its marketplace that take inspiration from MM too, while the PS3 has the JPN PS1 versions of the first few Mega Mans. If memory serves, no gaming-related Kickstarter has reached its goal so quickly – although the OUYA reached its pretty quickly, I don’t think it was fully funded in about two days.

One great benefit to this is that it shows Capcom that there is interest in a Mega Man-style game, and since they own that IP, they could easily just decide to put a game in development or perhaps resurrect one of the cancelled projects and perhaps release it to the market around the time of MN9 as a competing product. Hopefully the devs are able to get used to the PS4 and Xbox One hardware fairly quickly to ensure that the game sees a release on those platforms, as they’ll likely be firmly entrenched in the marketplace by the time the game hits PC in 2015 and the current gen systems will likely have dwindling fan bases with new releases limited to largely shovelware.
