Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate comes out today and retails for $39.99, but if you don’t like the price point, you can instead get it for free. Team Ninja’s upgraded fifth iteration into the DOA franchise will, for the first time, be free-to-play. If you don’t know what you get in the “stripped” down version, Tecmo Koei has briefly outlined it in a one-minute long trailer.
DOA5 Ultimate comes with four playable characters (Kasumi, Ayane, Hayabusa and Hayate) with the others being unlocked via micro-transactions. Each character will be priced at $3.99 with the story mode setting you back $14.99. Other than that, the game is virtually the same as all the other modes will be made available to you. An interesting business model as it allows you customize how you want to play and could very well end up costing you nothing. Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is in stores now with the free-to-play experience available exclusively on the PlayStation Network later today.
