Announced just this morning, the starter Pokémon from Red and Blue can now obtain Mega status. You heard me. Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise are all getting an extra boost of power. Charizard is looking more dragon-like, Venusaur grew a flower on its head and Blastoise now has three cannons. It also appears that you may receive one of the starters later on in the game, perhaps after a certain event such as defeating the Pokémon League. It appears these new forms come with new attacks, but we’ll have to wait for the game to come out before confirming. Watch those old favorites in the video below!
When news first broke on these new Mega forms, people were skeptical, but the new looks are impressive. Earlier it was revealed Blaziken, another starter, would have the Mega Evolution ability as well. This got fans hoping for more starters to receive the same treatment. Now, everyone’s dreams have come true. Those who only love the first generation could be coming back to play X and Y just to catch a glimpse of their beloved Charizards. Meanwhile, us die-hards will be on the lookout for more Pokémon turning Mega.
