Batman: Arkham Origins is almost here. The prequel to the Batman Arkham franchise makes its grand debut this Friday. While we wait those two days, Warner Bros. have released a launch trailer that makes things pretty personal for everyone’s favorite Dark Knight.
Batman: Arkham Origins takes place five years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum. On Christmas Eve of Batman’s second year on the job, Black Mask puts a $50 million bounty on Batman’s head after getting sick of him foiling his schemes. Eight assassins converge on the area of Gotham City that will eventually become Arkham City in an attempt to claim the prize.
As this is a prequel all of the characters are significantly younger. Warner Bros. Montreal’s goal is to make players feel like they are playing as a younger, less refined Batman. To do this they brought in Roger Craig Smith (Ezio from Assassin’s Creed II) to voice Batman and Troy Baker (Joel from The Last of Us) to voice Joker. Other villains like Penguin and Bane also look much younger than they did in previous games.
This will also be the first game in the franchise to feature multiplayer. The 3 vs. 3 vs. 2 multiplayer was developed by Splash Damage. The Wii U version does not come with multiplayer.
Batman: Arkham Origins is out October 25 worldwide for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U. Check out the launch trailer below:
