EA gave the world of PlayStation some bad news at their quarterly earnings call. The publisher killed all hope that Titanfall will eventually come to PS4 or PS3 and that is had made an exclusivity deal with Microsoft for the lifetime of the title.
The multiplayer game made a huge splash at E3 2013 and ended up being the highlight of the show. Many gamers began speculating that the game was only timed-exclusive and would eventually make its way to PlayStation platforms. This was a theory that Respawn Entertainment hinted at in numerous interviews. This is not the case.
Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella tweeted his sympathies to PlayStation gamers shortly after the announcement. “Always MS exclusive at launch, great partner and focus is good for a startup. EA made a deal for the rest, we only found out recently =(.”
So it seems that Respawn had always intended for the game to be ported to PS4 and PS3, but EA never bothered telling them that they made a life exclusivity deal with Microsoft. Seems a bit sleazy. Continuing to answer tweets, Zampella did say that the entire franchise will not be exclusive to Xbox, but future installments will see their way onto PlayStation platforms.
Titanfall is out March 11, 2014 in North America and March 14, 2014 in Europe for Xbox One, PC and Xbox 360.
