Famitsu Scores Super Mario 3D World and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Highly

It’s been a strong few days for gaming in the Land of the Rising Sun. Just this week they’ve seen the release of Super Mario 3D World, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, the remake of Atelier Rorona and the Wii U version of Taiko no Tatsujin, a franchise that’s kind of a big deal in the JPN. Of course, these are just a few games that Famitsu has reviewed this week. With a total of nine games on the critics ballot, it’s impressive that all of them fared pretty well. Take a peek at the scores below:

  • Super Mario 3D World (Wii U, Nintendo): 9, 10, 9, 10 – (38/40)
  • Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3/360, Square Enix): 10, 10, 8, 9 – (37/40)
  • One Piece: Unlimited World Red (3DS, Bandai Namco): 8, 8, 8, 8 – (32/40)

As folks can see, both Super Mario 3D World and Lightning Returns earned platinum scores, which are only handed out to titles that are rated 35 points and above. While Famitsu has certainly wavered over the years in terms of review credibility, from the coverage presented on all of these games thus far, it looks like they may have gotten this one right.
