Sony has confirmed that a new software update for its brand new console is due for release later today. Obviously no hardware launch is flawless and typically contains plenty of issues that need to be smoothed out. This is no different from the PS4, which critics saw as a great console with tons of potential, but needs some work first.
Update 1.51 will be a minor update compared to the 300MB 1.50 update the system required straight out of the box. Its function is to update the stability of the system software and add a few refinements to the UI.
“Later today, the next system software update for PlayStation 4 (version 1.51) will be available,” wrote Sony on its PS Blog. “With this minor required update, stability of system software has been improved. In addition, minor refinements to elements of the system UI (such as clearly indicating when a user downloads a game and a game patch at the same time) have been introduced.”
PS4 launched in North America last Friday and shattered Wii’s record for biggest console launch in history. Over 1 million units were sold in 24 hours. The console launches in Europe and Latin America November 29 where it is expected to shatter more records.
