The developer of the Rune Factory series, Neverland, announced today they would be ceasing operations, according to their official website.
The Rune Factory series is a spin-off of Harvest Moon, borrowing many of the same farming and socializing mechanics while adding weapon forging and dungeon crawling. The most recent installment, Rune Factory 4, was the fastest-selling game in the series to date. Unfortunately, it seems even that wasn’t enough, as the Japanese company cited a changing business environment and an inability to find funding as the primary factors resulting in their bankruptcy.
This announcement means the previously confirmed Rune Factory 5 most likely won’t see the light of day, a dismal fate for a beloved franchise.
