Many gamers have found themselves obsessed with the ARMA II mod DayZ for a while now. The survival-focused survival horror game pits players against zombies – and other players! It has been evolving continuously and the latest evolution is the game becoming its own standalone entity.
DayZ’s launch on Steam Early Access means that new players will no longer need to own ARMA II and install/configure the mod to play. Of course, since it is in the Early Access program this also means it’s still in alpha. Portions of the mod were broken and as such there are still many issues to be resolved with the standalone version. Launch is likely still a long way off.
The alpha of DayZ can be purchased for $29.99. Bohemia Interactive has not stated whether or not the price will increase as development progresses.
