High-Capacity Wii U GamePad Battery Released in North America

After debuting in Japan over the summer, and eventually finding its way to Europe since then, Nintendo has finally released a high-capacity battery for the Wii U GamePad in North America. The battery “offers up to 8 hours of use and can be easily installed using a screwdriver and included instructions,” and will set you back $32 plus shipping. It’s a welcome upgrade from the frustratingly short 3-5 hour lifespan of the current GamePad battery, and it’s positive to see Nintendo responding to one of the most significant complaints consumers have about the Wii U. It will be interesting to see how long it takes before this new battery becomes the stock-standard model in new gamepads, but until then you can find it now on Nintendo’s online store.
