Titanfall is shaping up to be one of the biggest new IPs of 2014. The game launches on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC and fans wanting to get their hands on the PC version are surely excited to dig in and begin modding the game. Sadly, that’s going to have to wait.
Answering a question on Twitter, Respawn Entertainment boss Vince Zampella confirmed that there will be no mod support for Titanfall at launch. “not at launch for sure, will have to evaluate after launch,” he tweeted. Going off this it is possible that we’ll get mod support after launch, but nothing is for sure.
Titanfall is being developed on Valve’s Source Engine, one of the best engines for modding. Typically, most Source Engine games launch with modding capabilities, especially if they’re from Valve themselves. It’s possible this may be an EA policy as the publisher has restricted modding capabilities in the past with the recent SimCity. Players unhappy with the product ended up hacking in to disable features like the always-online DRM requirement.
Titanfall is out March 11 on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
