Xbox One Hits 3 Million Units Sold

Xbox One has passed the 3 million mark.  In a post on Xbox Wire Corporate Vice President of Marketing  Yusef Mehdi revealed that the latest Xbox console hit the mark right before the new year hit.

“It’s been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honored to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November.  Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide. We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible.”

“The reaction from our fans was mind-blowing for our team,” he continued. “As we see your excitement, your energy and your hours of gameplay, we continue to be inspired to do great work – for you.”

These latest numbers indicate that Xbox One is well on its way to surpassing lifetime sales of Nintendo’s struggling Wii U.  Current estimates put the Wii U at about 5 million units after a whole year on market.  Xbox One achieved 3 million in a little over a month.

What’s less clear is how well it is doing compared to PS4.  Sony last revealed sales figures at the very beginning of December, but hasn’t revealed anything since.  Perhaps Sony will reveal sales soon now that Microsoft has posted theirs.

Congratulations, Microsoft!
