While we knew Twitch would get a huge boost from PS4 users, we didn’t expect it to be this substantial. Twitch has reported today that 20% of Twitch broadcasters between 12/23 and 1/3 were PS4 owners.
“Ever since we began working with the major console platform companies, wewere confident the integration of live broadcasting to Twitch would be agame changer,” said Matthew DiPietro, VP Marketing, Twitch. “Based on oursuccess with PlayStation 4, which currently represents twenty percent of ourbroadcaster base, our vision was on the mark. We envision a day when broadcasting your gameplay is a ubiquitous piece of the gaming experience. We’re well on our way.”
Streaming on the PS4 is hands down the easiest way to stream as it avoids the need for capture devices or costly software, so it makes sense that it would become the preferred method of streaming. Twitch and other developers have improved the service over the past few weeks and quality has began to become acceptable across the board. It just goes to show how this culture needs constantly shout out what they’re doing to be validated.
