Sony Online Entertainment Looking To Revamp Its Subscription Model

Tired of paying for different subscriptions across multiple games?  Well Sony Online Entertainment is getting pretty tired as well.  In fact, the company is looking into creating a subscription model that will allow you pay one fee and get access to every single SOE game.

Talking on Reddit, Sony Online Entertainment chief John Smedley revealed that company is looking into revamping its subscription system and that it is likely to happen.  However, this would only be for PC.  Many SOE games are available on PS4 and PS3, but this revamp wouldn’t extend to them.

“We are considering (and are likely going to move forward with) a plan that means if you subscribe to one of our games you are a subscriber to all our games (this applies to PC titles only btw).. all for the current $14.99 a month. That’s a benefit most companies simply can’t offer because they don’t have our portfolio of games.

“The goal would be to let you pick an item in each game you play. Some of you might say “well who cares..I only play Planetside 2. How is that a benefit to me?” My answer is simple – we’ve got a great lineup of games, some of which aren’t announced yet that cater to a lot of players.

“We have EQN and EQNL coming along with other….. games… that PS2 players might just like.”

He also elaborated on why this would be PC only.  Station Cash, the premium currency for SOE titles, is not allowed on PSN.  A big part of the subscriptions is offering bonus Station Cash and rewarding subscribers, something that they wouldn’t be able to do on PS4 and PS3.

We’ll keep you updated should Sony Online Entertainment announce anything more about the revamp.
