Fans of Hitman can breathe a collective sigh of relief. A next-gen Hitman game has not been cancelled and is still in development for the next-gen consoles and PC.
A Square Enix representative provided the following statement to IGN:
“Io-Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be coming to PC and next-gen consoles and Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on mobile development of games some of which are related to the Hitman franchise. We look forward to sharing more details about these titles later this year.”
All of this fear about the game being cancelled began yesterday. VideoGamer spotted on senior game designer Richard Knight’s LinkedIn profile that the next-gen Hitman game had been cancelled and that the team had been relegated to working on mobile titles.
The publisher was pretty fast with its remarks and clearing up any confusion. Square Enix Montreal is not working on the next Hitman game. Rather, they are working on mobile games with some possibly being linked to the Hitman franchise. IO Interactive, however, is still hard at work on the next-gen Hitman.
Hopefully we’ll hear some news about this new Hitman sometime in the near future.
