Left 4 Dead Developer Turtle Rock Studios Announces New IP, Evolve

Turtle Rock Studios, the creators of the smash hits Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, have finally unveiled their latest project; Evolve.  The little studio that could helped redefine what it meant to play a Co-Op shooter and is looking to do it again with Evolve when the game launches this Fall for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Evolve was announced as GameInformer‘s February cover.  Turtle Rock leaves behind the familiar territory of the zombie apocalypse in favor of a sci-fi setting.  Here, four-player alien hunters will face off against player controlled monster that grows bigger and more powerful with each passing round.  Hunters will have their own unique items and abilities.  The lone player monster will see its size grow and gain devastating attacks making it a formidable opponent.

Turtle Rock Studios left Valve behind a few years ago to work on a brand new IP.  THQ was set to publish the title, but the struggling publisher fell into bankruptcy and all of its assets were put up for auction at the beginning of 2013, including the publishing rights to Evolve.  2K Games swooped in and paid a staggering $10.8 million for the IP.  At the time nobody knew what this project was.

I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about Evolve at E3 2014 and throughout the rest of the year.  Evolve is out Fall 2014 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
