Titanfall Capped at 12 Players

The more things change the more they stay the same.  This is especially true of Titanfall, a multiplayer only shooter from Respawn Entertainment and EA.  The game promises to shake up the First-Person Shooter genre with platforming elements and the use of giant Titans.  However, the game still feels very last-gen with its just revealed player count.

On Twitter, a fan asked the studio just how many players can participate in a match.  Vince Zampella, co-founder of Respawn replied that, “6v6 is max player count. Turned out to be the best balance with ai for us.”  So in total only 12 players can participate in one match.

This decision has been defended by the development team stating that tall twelve players can have mechs at the same time, however that doesn’t change the fact that the player count does feel very last-gen.  Killzone: Shadow Fall on the PS4 allowed up to 24 players to participate in its multiplayer matches.  Battlefield 4 went above and beyond with 64 players.  In the end this might have been the best call, but it is a little disappointing going from such high player counts to so small.

Titanfall is out March 11 for Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
