From Software Hasn’t Put Any Thought Into Next-Gen Versions of Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II is a game that many people are excited to get their hands on.  In fact, we’ve rated it as one of nine games that will keep players glued to their PS3 and Xbox 360 and not even consider upgrading to next-gen.  While pretty much every game on that list is confirmed to not be coming to PS4 and Xbox One there is one that has neither confirmed or denied’ Dark Souls II.

Edge asked that question in an interview with co-director Yui Tanimura.  “We have not put any thought into this yet,” Tanimura replied, “so I unfortunately can’t answer at this point.”  Once again we are faced with neither a confirmation or denial.

Bringing Dark Souls II to PS4 and Xbox One will most likely hinge on how well the game sells on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.  We don’t doubt that discussions about bringing it to the new consoles is taking place at publisher Namco Bandai behind-closed-doors.  Many of the games on the list were either supposed to release in 2013 before the next-gen consoles launched but got delayed or are HD Remasters.  Dark Souls II is the only one that was supposed to have a 2014 release, which means that next-gen versions might have been in the plans.

Dark Souls II is out March 11 on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
