Do you think Valve is only interested in games? Maybe that was the case once, but with their work on Steam In-Home Streaming and SteamOS, they’re pushing to become a new media hub. Today the Steam Music group opened up to precede the roll-out of yet another new feature.
First, it’s worth noting that this isn’t a challenger to iTunes – yet. There is no music store functionality here. Instead, Steam Music is a fancy new way to listen to the music you already own. The player is activated in Big Picture mode and stays hooked to the Steam overlay. This makes it easier to change up your music when playing a game in full screen mode.
By joining the group you are entered in for a chance to beta test this latest feature. It might seem a bit simplistic now, but by the time Valve’s through with Steam Music it will probably be a completely different beast.
