Microsoft Names Satya Nadella As CEO

It has been a long, arduous search, but Microsoft has finally found its new CEO.  Satya Nadella will be replacing Steve Ballmer, who announced last August that he would be stepping down. This will be a huge promotion for Nadella, who is currently the head of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise division.

“During this time of transformation, there is no better person to lead Microsoft than Satya Nadella, ” said Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, in a prepared statement.  “Satya is a proven leader with hard-core engineering skills, business vision and the ability to bring people together. His vision for how technology will be used and experienced around the world is exactly what Microsoft needs as the company enters its next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth.”

“Microsoft is one of those rare companies to have truly revolutionized the world through technology, and I couldn’t be more honored to have been chosen to lead the company,” Nadella added.  “The opportunity ahead for Microsoft is vast, but to seize it, we must focus clearly, move faster and continue to transform. A big part of my job is to accelerate our ability to bring innovative products to our customers more quickly.”

Nadella will be Microsoft’s third CEO. Bill Gates stepped down in 2000 with Steve Ballmer replacing him. Calls for Ballmer to step down from the CEO position were made after Microsoft’s failure to enter the smartphone and tablet markets and disrupt Apple and Google. Satya Nadella will have plenty of work to do as Microsoft continues to attempt to make a dent in those industries.
