There was a bit of hubbub last month surrounding Ubisoft’s new IP Watch Dogs. A rumor was circulating via GameStop’s Italian arm that the Wii U version, and only the Wii U version, was being scrapped. The retailer quickly retracted the statement, owing the scare to a glitch in the system.
Well, rumors are flowing once again as Nintendo’s recently published official release schedule of 2014 games has a notable omission: Watch Dogs. Owing some credence to this rumor is that Ubisoft has confirmed via twitter that the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions are still in development, but have declined to comment on the Wii U version.
We’ll learn soon enough as the game, which may see a change in name, is set to release in the first quarter of Ubisoft’s fiscal year, which begins in April. Losing Watch Dogs would be a major blow to Nintendo’s flagging console, as Ubisoft remained one of the final third party developers to offer it support.
