One of Lightning Returns’ defining characteristics is that players can choose different costumes for Lightning. There are plenty of Final Fantasy-themed costumes including Cloud, Aerith and Yuna outfits, but a surprising addition has recently surfaced: a Tomb Raider costume. Yes, players will be able to dress up Lightning just like Lara Croft.
The costume is based on the 2013 reboot published by Square Enix. Lara’s tank top, pants and boots are all there, and as an additional visual bonus Lightning is covered in a nice layer of grit. Lightning’s main weapon is Lara’s Survivor’s Axe, and she obtains a Riot Shield — an odd choice considering the fact that Lara never used a riot shield in Tomb Raider. Other than cosmetic changes, however, it doesn’t appear that this costume adds any sort of bonus. It will be available via DLC, though a release date and price have yet to be been announced.
The inclusion of themed DLC is not a surprising one. Square Enix teamed up with EA and Ubisoft to release Mass Effect and Assassin’s Creed-themed costume DLC for Final Fantasy XIII-2. Seeing as Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition just launched on PS4 and Xbox One, it’s easy to see why Square Enix would be working a little bit of self-promotion with this release.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is out February 11 on PS3 and Xbox 360. Check out the DLC in action right here.
