The team behind one of the industry’s premiere franchises, BioShock, has announced they will be dwindling down the studio. In a statement by Ken Levine on the website’s main page, he reminisced what long a journey it has been for the successful studio, going on to say “That is going to mean parting ways with all but about fifteen members of the Irrational team. There’s no great way to lay people off, and our first concern is to make sure that the people who are leaving have as much support as we can give them during this transition.”
Many are probably wondering why the million dollar-making titles aren’t keeping them afloat, but that’s apparently not the reason, but instead becauseseries has been so successful that there is nothing left for Irrational to accomplish with BioShock. Ken believes there is still a future for the company, but it isn’t their flagship game. They will continue creating new titles, but it will take time.
