Square Enix is so mysterious when it comes to Final Fantasy VII — they always have been, really. Today’s bit of news continues to add to the mystique of the famed JRPG, as the company behind the roleplaying juggernaut has registered the trademark “Shinra Company”. For those who have not played the game (which, by our count is about eight people worldwide, or at least should be only eight people worldwide), Shinra is a colossal power company in-game that acts as something of a centerpiece for the entire narrative. Meaning to say, they are a huge part of practically all the major events that unfold in the title’s story.
The best news about all of this is the trademark was registered for use with video games, which means we’re not going to get some obscure merchandise that has nothing to do with our lovely medium. What this could indicate is totally up in the air. Is it the remake that was talked about earlier in the week; is it a sequel (because Square loves those these days); does it have anything to do with the Shinra-centric spin-off game Before Crisis? Your guess is as good as ours. So stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
