Harmonix is ditching the plastic instrument peripherals of the last decade in favor of Chroma, a music-based arena FPS that has more in common with their early releases like Frequency, Amplitude and Antigrav. Those who signed up for the Alpha have been receiving e-mails with details on how to jump into the game the past few days, which just had its servers launched today.
The game will be free-to-play, featuring shifting terrain and music-driven gameplay where players can unleash streams of sound from wobbling bases to the crunch of an electrical guitar that reflects their musical tastes in battle.
Chroma is due for release on Steam sometime in 2014. Those interested in checking out the Alpha can sign still sign up here.
