Just in time to celebrate the release of Pac-Man Museum, the below video, called “Six Pacmen,” shows off some excellent multimedia performance art by Tacit Group that merges the seminal video game with cooperative play and classical music. It tasks six simultaneous Pac-Man players with traversing around each level to amass certain items.
The trick is that each measure of Steve Reich’s 1973 “Six Pianos” piece is played one measure at a time. The performers can only progress to the next measure by first beating the level. In true Pac-Man fashion, some sections plop ghosts to throw off the performers. It’s a feast for the eyes and ears.
