According to Sony Worldwide Studios, The Last Guardian Is Still Coming

The Last Guardian has been on the backburner at Sony for quite some time, with numerous delays and a frustrating lack of communication. Fan support, however, hasn’t dwindled in the least, and Sony appears to be well aware. In a discussion with IGN, head of Sony Worldwide Studios development Scott Rohde said, “when we see that the public is so interested in a specific game, of course that drives us to want to complete that game. But it also drives us to want to make it great. We would not want to ship that game if we don’t think it’s great.”

“It’s really cool that people are still interested in it, and we’re trying to make the best thing we can out of The Last Guardian.”

There’s still no word on which studio is currently leading development, how many production years have been lost, what system the title will launch on or whether it will see the light of day before Half Life 3. Although Rhode said that while he couldn’t announce who’s involved, it’s “still a title that’s absolutely in the mix at Worldwide Studios.”

Should fans be excited? That’s a question that could have, and has been, asked dozens of times over the last few years. With Duke Nukem comparisons aplenty, we’re just hoping that whatever glint of hope The Last Guardian is surviving on remains bright enough to carry it through release later this year.
