NPD Group: PS4 Wins February 2014

The PS4 was the big winner of February 2014 winning another month against the Xbox One.  However, Microsoft’s latest console did much better in February than it did in January.  Xbox One sold 258,000, which is about 90% of what the PS4 sold.  In January, the PS4 more than doubled the sales of the Xbox One.  Total hardware sales for the month came in at $347 million and software came in at $318 million.  An overall good month for the industry thanks to the introduction of the new consoles.

The ten best-selling games saw some fresh entries.  The LEGO Movie Videogame, Thief, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Bravely Default all cracked the Top 10.  However, none of them were a match for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which continues to claim the top spot.

Check out the Top 10 titles below:

  1. Call Of Duty: Ghosts (Activision)
  2. The LEGO Movie Videogame (Warner Bros.)
  3. NBA 2K14 (2K Games)
  4. Thief (Square Enix)
  5. Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar)
  6. Battlefield 4 (EA)
  7. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (Ubisoft)
  8. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (Square Enix)
  9. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition (Microsoft)
  10. Bravely Default (Square Enix)

According to Microsoft, 772,000 Xbox One games and 2.46 million Xbox 360 games were sold during the month.  This gives the Xbox brand 48% of the total market share when combined.

Nintendo noted that Bravely Default sold about 200,000 copies.  This is made even more impressive by the fact that the Square Enix developed RPG is exclusive to the 3DS.  Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze managed to sell 130,000 units, but did not crack the Top 10 Best-Selling Games.

Sony has not released an official statement yet.
