GDC 14 : Sony Announces Project Morpheus VR Headset For PS4

One of the biggest rumors for GDC was that Sony would be announcing its own VR headset to counter the Oculus Rift. Today, it became a reality at GDC. The current prototype is a head-mounted display with 1080p resolution, and a 90 degree field of view. Playstation Camera technology is used to track the head’s orientation and movement, and there are gyroscopic sensors and an accelerometer built into the unit as well. 3D audio is used to recreate stereoscopic sound and will change in real-time based on where your head is. The device will work with the PS Camera, the Dual Shock 4, and the PlayStation Move. Tech demos will be showcased as GDC wears on, which should excite anyone who is intrigued by VR technology.
