Sony has lost another high profile developer. The publisher has confirmed that Stig Asmussen, God of War III’s director, has left Sony Santa Monica after 11 years of service.
“SCEA can confirm that Stig Asmussen is no longer with Santa Monica Studio,” Sony said in a statement to IGN.
Stig Asmussen first joined Sony Santa Monica back in 2003. He served as an environment artist for God of War, art director for God of War II and rose to game director for God of War III. Stig and his team did not work on God of War: Ascension, but it was rumored to they were working on either a brand new IP or God of War IV. Sony recently pulled the plug on the new IP and let go of a good portion of the staff.
This is the second high-profile departure for a Sony studio. Just a few weeks ago Sony confirmed that Amy Hennig was leaving Naughty Dog after 10 years of service. The good news is that Corey Barlog, game director for God of War II, recently returned to Sony Santa Monica.
