GDC 14: Future PS4 Firmware Update To Allow You To Dim Dualshock 4 Light Bar

One of the more interesting new features of the PS4s Dualshock 4 controller is the Light Bar.  Games like Killzone: Shadow Fall use the bar to display health.  When combined with the PlayStation Camera, the Light Bar opens up new ways to control the game.  Unfortunately, there are still many games that do not use the Light Bar in any capacity.

When not in use by a game, the Light Bar is a solid color.  This can be very annoying during dark areas in games with the light creating glare on the TV screen.  Thankfully, Sony is working on a solution.

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed on Twitter that a future firmware update for the PS4 will add in the option to dim the LED in the Light Bar.  However, you can’t completely turned it off.  GameTrailer’s Geoff Keighley incorrectly tweeted that the LED could be turned off completely before Shuhei tweeted back that this is not the case.

At this point it is currently unknown when this Firmware Update will be released.  Since Sony is announcing this feature now we hopefully won’t have to wait that long for it to be released.
