Why do we love horror so much? I, for one, am not a brave man. I get the jitters watching Home Alone with the lights off on particularly stormy nights. But there’s something about fear that draws us in like a drug, pushing us to open another door, peek around another corner and, if we’re feeling especially bold, not cry uncontrollably at the sight of a pool of blood — something The Evil Within demonstrates in its latest trailer. The horror genre has risen in popularity over the last few years, and the implementation of horror elements has become quite common, too. It’s ironic, because as the genre itself developed its own legs to stand on, the very horror simulations that initially piqued my interest have simmered, slowly dwindling in both scares and emotional impact.
Shinji MIkami, the proverbial puppet master behind the Resident Evil series isn’t playing games with his latest entry in the terrifying genre, however. The newly released trailer for The Evil Within is littered with scares, disgusting abominations, and all the creepiness we’ve grown to expect from earlier entries in the Resident Evil series. It’s a bloody mess, and one I can’t wait to explore come August 26 (NA) and August 29 (EU) on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Check out the PAX trailer below, and prepare yourself for some uncomfortably detailed nightmares.
