Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Announced For PS3, Xbox 360 and PC

Get ready for another adventure with your favorite psychopathic franchise.  Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel has been announced for a Fall 2014 release on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and comes with more content than the original Borderlands, but less than Borderlands 2.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is an interquel that takes place between the events of the original Borderlands and Borderlands 2.  The story revolves around Handsome Jack and his rise to power.  It will effectively tell the story of how he became the villain in Borderlands 2.  Save files from the previous games will not carry over to this new game.

2K Australia takes over development duties, though they are working closely with Gearbox Software to nail down the experience.  This is not a simple rehash of previous ideas.  Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will feature tons of new content new to the franchise.  There are four brand new playable characters – Athena, Wilhelm, Sheriff and playable for the first time ever, Claptrap – who are employees of Handsome Jack.

For the first time in the franchise, the action will not take place on Pandora.  Instead, it takes place on the Hyperion Space station, which Handsome Jack has accidentally crashed into the moon.  Plenty of new gameplay mechanics are being introduced revolving around the new setting.  For example, the low gravity allows players to double jump and ground pound.  More mechanics will be unveiled in the months ahead.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is out Fall 2014 on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.  No word on a PS Vita version.  Check out the box art below:
