The composer behind the iconic Halo soundtrack is no longer with Bungie. Serving as the studio’s composer since 1999, both he and Bungie have confirmed that he is no longer with the development studio.
The news first broke last night when Marty O’Donnell took to Twitter to reveal that Bungie has terminated his employment on April 11. What’s worse is that he was terminated without cause. “I’m saddened to say that Bungie’s board of directors terminated me without cause on April 11, 2014.”
As you can expect, people are not happy about O’Donnell’s termination. This morning Bungie released a response concerning O’Donnell’s termination on their blog. “For more than a decade, Marty O’Donnell filled our worlds with unforgettable sounds and soundtracks, and left an indelible mark on our fans. Today, as friends, we say goodbye. We know that wherever his journey takes him, he will always have a bright and hopeful future. We wish him luck in all his future endeavors.”
Marty O’Donnell joined Bungie in 1999 before the studio released its smash hit, Halo. He’s been with Bungie ever since, and was currently working on the score to Destiny, Bungie’s brand new IP.
