Xbox One Ships 5 Million Units

Its been a long time since we’ve gotten any update on the sales figures for Xbox One, and it looks like we’ll be waiting even longer.  Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One has shipped 5 million units.  It’s important to note that shipped units is not the same as units sold.  We still have no idea how much the console has sold.

Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Marketing, Strategy and Business, made the announcement in response to the March 2014 NPD report.  “We are grateful for your support on Xbox One and the continued popularity of Xbox 360. We’re going to continue working hard to earn your loyalty and making Xbox the best place to play games.”

He noted that Titanfall was the best-selling game of the month, and that four of the ten best-selling games of the month were available on Xbox One.  4.1 million games were sold scross both Xbox consoles.

This news puts the Xbox One in third-place behind the Wii U and PS4.  Sony announced yesterday that the PS4 has sold 7 million units.  It’s been a while since Nintendo updated us on Wii U sales, but the last estimate was around 5.86 million.  Microsoft still has a lot of catching up to do.
