Microsoft announced this morning that they will be releasing a Kinect-less Xbox One SKU for only $399.99. This is a great move considering that there are a lot of people unwilling to spend the extra $100 on the current Xbox One SKU with the Kinect bundled in. However, for those who want to pick up the Kinect in the future, Microsoft will be releasing the camera as a standalone product.
Speaking with IGN, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer confirmed that a standalone Kinect is coming, but it will release “a little later” than the June 9 release of the Kinect-less Xbox One. He also revealed that, “the price probably won’t be exactly $100.” Knowing this, purchasing the Xbox One without the Kinect, and then buying the standalone Kinect is a much better deal than picking up the $499.99 model that has the camera bundled in.
The Xbox One bundle without Kinect launches June 9, the same day as Microsoft’s E3 2014 press conference.
