Nintendo has announced that the Wii U and 3DS Sonic Boom games will launch fall 2014. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric will launch on the Wii U (and is the first game on the system to be built with CryEngine), and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal will launch on the 3DS. The Sonic Boom games were announced earlier this year as exclusives to Nintendo’s platforms, serving as prequels to the upcoming TV show.
Both Sonic Boom games will feel very different from previous Sonic games. The Wii U version is more of an action-adventure title with players needing to use each of the four character’s unique abilities to progress through the stages, while the 3DS version is more focused on platforming and solving puzzles — not to mention you get the added bonus of playing as new character Sticks. Certain collectibles found in the 3DS game will unlock exclusive content in the Wii U game.
