The Shantae games have been getting rave reviews for 12 years now. Starting on the Game Boy Color and then being revived as a DSiWare title, it’s been a portable darling. Soon, the series will return to its portable roots with Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. However, our belly-baring heroine isn’t just playable on a portable – she’ll now be on a console. Shantae’s next adventures hits the high seas as well as the 3DS, and Wii U eShop storefronts this summer. The Wii U’s Gamepad makes it a natural fit for the console too since you’ll still be able to play it on a semi-portable display, while also having the benefits that come with an HD-ready system. Shantae becomes a pirate in this game and can now use a pistol, a cannon, and a scimitar to defend herself. The Wii U version will feature touch controls on the Gamepad, and the 3DS version will have a real-time map on the second screen. A firm release date isn’t known, but the late summer release window would seem to indicate an August release.
