After previewing a number of 3DS exclusive game modes, Nintendo quickly revealed that the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. has been delayed by a couple of months. The release date, in positively sneaky fashion, was only shown for a second, giving a definitive level of shadiness to the delay. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS will hit digital and retail storefronts on October 3rd, 2014 (AKA the week where all video games ever made get released).
This is an immense disappointment, as it seems that the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. will get lost among the countless AAA releases in October. What makes this delay an outright shame is that the 3DS version appears to have a number of interesting exclusive features that make up for the lack of local multiplayer. One could essentially make the argument that the 3DS version is more content-complete based upon what we know now. Unfortunately, it seems as though Nintendo is not giving the first handheld Super Smash Bros. title the chance it deserves.
