With no offense meant towards their organizers, petitions tend to be a waste of time. Sure, they organize a group of like-minded people for a cause, but it’s rare action is actually taken from these internet outcries. Just look at all the cancelled television shows that never came back in spite of huge petitions (besides The Killing, at least….and The Killing again the next year…). This Digimon petition, however, may actually accomplish its goal.
Dubbed “Operation Decode,” fans launched a petition for Bandai Namco Games Europe and America to localize Digimon games again — specifically the latest two: Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode for 3DS and Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth for PS Vita. While it’s certainly a well-organized campaign, it didn’t seem likely to spur interest from the publisher until European community manager Isshak Gravi said on Twitter “make the petition reach 50k fans at least, then we can maybe start considering it.”
Of course, while this is a declaration of interest, it’s hardly an ironclad commitment. The fact that the company is noticing the outcry, however, is a promising start.
The petition currently sits at 30,000 signatures. Head over here to put your John Hancock.
