No doubt, game streaming is a thing. It’s a big thing. Hell, for some, it’s even a job. But while such capabilities have historically remained exclusive to PCs and consoles, it would seem that Twitch is looking into streaming, or at the very least viewing streams, on-the-go. More specifically, they are looking into bringing their services to the 3DS and Vita — this comes shortly after Twitch’s entry into the mobile gaming space, thus making more traditional portables a natural evolution of that precise business venture.
Twitch COO Kevin Lin spoke to this matter, stating that they “definitely” want to pursue handhelds. According to Lin, viewing apps will be one of the first aspects explored.
Handhelds. That’s something we’d love to do. On handhelds it’s more of a server/CPU concern, but we definitely want to do it. We want to build viewing apps, that’s much less CPU intensive than broadcasting.
It’s high time we have the ability to watch Twitch content from portable gaming devices; but we dare to say that we’re also overdue for the opportunity to stream games from them, as well.
