Taking place July 11th – 13th in Atlanta, Georgia, this make-or-break competitive StarCraft II tournament has now commenced. The only Atlanta-based event in 2014 within the sanctioning body’s WCS (World Championship of StarCraft) series, spectators will witness aspiring professional players of Blizzard Entertainment’s award-winning real-time strategy game, StarCraft II competing against well-known pros, in the hopes of making their eSports career dreams a reality.
Taking place at midtown’s Center Stage Theatre, Red Bull Battle Grounds Atlanta will be the first spectator event in the history of Red Bull eSports to boast an open registration format, giving up-and-coming amateurs a fighting chance to experience a taste of the pro gaming life.
This 128 player open tournament at Center Stage Theater will be split into 32 WCS format groups – Top 2 from each group will advance through to the 64-player BO3 Single Elimination phase.
Each player that survives Round 1 of the Single Elimination phase into the Top 32 will earn part of the $25k prize pool. Top 16 will collect their share of 4000 WCS points, and the BO5 finals winner will earn an invitation to the Grand Finals in Washington, D.C.
Tickets are still available for the event, but we’ll be hosting a livestream of the festivities all weekend long for those who can’t attend or simply want to witness the action unfold.
