Expect Guest Characters To Appear In Mortal Kombat X

Those hoping some guest characters will make an appearance in Mortal Kombat X will rejoice to know that the game will get at least one, if not more.  In an interview with MadCatz, Studio Head Ed Boon revealed that chances are high that a guest character will be released for Mortal Kombat X.  He also revealed that Freddy Kreuger and Scorpion, guest characters for Mortal Kombat (2011) and Injustice: Gods Among Us respectively, were the most downloaded characters of each game.

That was something that was embraced in Injustice and in Mortal Kombat. I think there’s a novelty to having a downloaded guest character, so, I think the chances are pretty high. I don’t think every single one of them [brand new characters] will be a guest, but I think the chances of at least one of them will be pretty good.

Guest characters have become an increasingly common practice in fighting games.  NetherRealm Studios themselves have openly embraced this trend in Mortal Kombat (2011) and Injustice: Gods Among Us.  Kratos (PS3 and PS Vita exclusive) and Freddy Kreuger made appearances in Mortal Kombat (2011), and Scorpion in Injustice: Gods Among Us.  Ed Boon has already confirmed that Kratos will not return in Mortal Kombat X, a shame considering how well he fit into the game.

Mortal Kombat X is out sometime in 2015 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
