Game Boy Stage Revealed for Super Smash Bros. 3DS

Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed a Game Boy inspired stage will feature exclusively on the 3DS version of the upcoming four player fighting game. Speaking on the game’s Miiverse page, Sakurai added, “If you turn on the 3D effect, it really looks like there’s a Game Boy inside the screen”. It’s unclear how the stage will function, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see several classic Game Boy games play in the background as players pummel each other, much like the Game & Watch inspired Flat Zone stage. The Game Boy, Nintendo’s classic handheld, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, so it’s great to see it take its rightful place in the digital Nintendo museum that is Super Smash Bros. You can look forward to that and more nostalgia when Super Smash Bros. for 3DS launches on October 3, followed by Super Smash Bros. for Wii U before the new year.
