WWE 2K15 Roster Revealed

Summerslam weekend is a big one for WWE as a company, and a bigger one this year than usual. The company’s new logo was revealed as the long-standing WWE Network logo, while the future of the company relies on that particular venture doing well. On the game side of things, 2K15 is the first current-gen release for the series and brings with it high expectations. Fans have long grown weary of the minor annual updates to the franchise’s engine, and are hopeful this game features dramatic improvements. From what was briefly shown at Gamescom, animations do appear to be more fluid and there are more positions to work with – with mid-movement setups akin to the Aki games on the N64. The biggest game-related news of the weekend involves the roster, which was revealed today in a panel.

The roster features some interesting picks, with Tyson Kidd being a surprising addition to it after being gone the past few games, but doing very well on NXT. The recently-fired Alberto Del Rio (now El Patron in AAA) makes what will certainly be his last WWE video game appearance, while the Sin Cara character isn’t being retained in the game as of right now despite being played by Hunico since the original Sin Cara stopped being used and then eventually left the promotion to join AAA as Myzteziz. The Wyatt Family as a whole makes its debut in a game here, as does Xavier Woods, who may wind up losing the Chaos Emeralds on his gear.

Rey Mysterio being in the game is a minor surprise since he’s spent so much time on the disabled list, but you can’t go wrong having an all-time great in your game. CM Punk was revealed for the game earlier in the week and is quite the surprise given that he left WWE out of nowhere and eventually retired, but like with Rey, the game’s roster is much stronger with him than without him. With only Sting and Hogan as the pre-order characters, WCW representation is quite line this year compared to last year, when you had a large NWO roster that feels sorely missed in this game, which actually has the group’s lead rival in it now. The 2K site says the full roster will be revealed soon, so it seems like this is the launch day roster, and we’ll find out DLC characters fairly soon. The game itself launches on October 28 in North America and on October 31 internationally.
