Digital downloads made up for 92 percent of all PC game sales worldwide in 2013, according to a new DFC Intelligence statistic report from PCR. DFC Intelligence analysts also predict the percentage to increase further in the near future.
The massive success of digital download portals like Steam and GOG, along with the desire for publishers like EA and Ubisoft to push their own games in publisher portals like Origin and UPlay respectively, it makes sense that digital downloads would have made a powerful statement in recent years, especially on the PC platform. However, 92 percent is still a massive percentage.
Frequent sales on digital platforms have also made a commanding statement, as shown by the success of Steam’s (in)famous Summer Sale.
