Today marks the official launch of the Nintendo Download Store on Amazon Japan. Nintendo continues its expansion into the digital marketplace by allowing consumers to purchase digital codes from the website, which can later be entered into the Nintendo eShop to download software titles. As of August 27th, 117 titles for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U are available at slightly discounted prices. Fans are also able to make a reservation to download the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS, set for release on September 13th in Japan, among other upcoming titles.
While in the USA consumers are able to purchase digital download codes from GameStop and certain retailers, in Japan this service has been widespread with even convenience stores such as Seven Eleven even selling codes. An equivalent online store has yet to be announced for an American release, but we can only hope it will come in time.
