Sony Announces Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact, First Smartphones To Feature PS4 Remote Play

Sony has announced their new Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact smartphones. While both have some impressive tech inside of them, it’s the PS4 Remote Play that’s most exciting.

The new Z3 line of smartphones will be the first to feature PS4 Remote Play, though there are some restrictions. If you want to play games you will need to get a Game Control Mount to connect your Dualshock 4 to the phone. Only Wi-Fi is supported at this time.  If you just want to watch friend’s gameplay, talk to them, browse the PlayStation Store, and take a look at trophies then you won’t need a Dualshock 4.

Xperia Z3 Compact

These phones will be great companion devices for the PS4 if you don’t own a PS Vita, but how are they as phones? Both the Xperia Z3 and the Z3 Compact share the same innards.  You’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2.5 GHz quad-core CPU with 4G LTE modem, and both are highly water and dust resistant. Both models include a 20.7 mega-pixel camera that has the ability to shoot video in 4K resolution.

It’s the outside of the phones that make both models different. The Xperia Z3 measures 5.2in and comes in white, black, copper, and green. The Xperia Z3 compact measures 4.6in and comes in orange, green, white or black. Both phones will be available this fall. No pricing or carrier information has been announced.
