About time! Ubisoft has finally given the Wii U version of Watch Dogs a solid release date, November 18.
Finally getting a release date for this game has been a long time coming. Originally, it was supposed to launch alongside the PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions in November 2013, but all versions were given a delay to spring 2014. The Wii U version was further delayed into fall 2014 because Ubisoft Romania had to take over from Ubisoft Montreal. Apparently the developers in Montreal were unable to get the engine to work on Nintendo’s platform, something Ubisoft Romania could do.
The release date is a mixture of excitement and sadness. While its great to see a major third-party game launch on Wii U, this will also be the last time we see such a title from Ubisoft. Last month Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that the publisher would not be bringing any more M-Rated games to Wii U after Watch Dogs. This includes the hotly anticipated Far Cry 4, which launches the same day as Watch Dogs.
Watch Dogs on Wii U will use the Gamepad to display the map. Other than that, Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed any other Wii U-specific features.
