Super Smash Bros. for 3DS has a release date set for October 3, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is set for Winter 2014. What does that even mean? We’ve known about the 3DS release date for months, but Nintendo has been suspiciously quiet about the Wii U release date. However, that silence may be about to break.
Twitter user BluesDriveBuster may have just broken Nintendo’s silence by posting a picture of a pre-order card featuring Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Printed on that card, clear as day, is November 21, 2014 as the release date.
He tweeted a little bit later stating that Nintendo sent his retailer a memo. The message was that they are not allowed to display those pre-order cards just yet. “Update: we had those smash cards on display, just got a memo from Nintendo telling us we can’t display them ‘yet.'”
This is currently a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt. On that note, November 21 makes a lot of sense. The date in question is a Friday, which lines up with Nintendo’s habit of releasing games on Friday. It’s also a week before the all important Black Friday shopping holiday. With a hit game like Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on store shelves, Nintendo stands to sell a ton of Wii U consoles.
We’ll let you know should Nintendo make any announcements.
